16 - 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

→ Sandwich Assembly

18 - 8 soft slider buns
19 - Butter for toasting buns (optional)

# How To Make:

01 - Combine chicken breasts, chicken broth, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper in a medium saucepan. Bring to a simmer, cover, and cook on low heat until chicken is fully cooked, approximately 15 to 18 minutes.
02 - Remove the chicken from the broth and allow it to cool slightly. Using two forks, shred the chicken into bite-sized pieces.
03 - In a separate saucepan, whisk together barbecue sauce, applesauce, apple cider vinegar, honey, and cinnamon. Heat over medium-low heat until warmed through, about 5 minutes.
04 - Add the shredded chicken to the warmed apple BBQ sauce. Stir to evenly coat and simmer for an additional 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
05 - In a medium bowl, combine julienned apple, sliced red onion, and shredded cabbage. Toss with mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, salt, and pepper. Chill until ready to use.
06 - If desired, lightly butter the slider buns and toast them in a skillet or oven until golden brown.
07 - Spoon the BBQ chicken onto the bottom halves of the slider buns. Top with apple slaw and cover with the top halves. Serve immediately.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • If you secretly wish BBQ could be fruity and fresh, this is your moment.
  • Apple slaw adds just enough crunch to keep every bite interesting.
02 -
  • The slaw gets crunchy but will go soggy if made too far ahead—assemble just before serving for the best bite.
  • Simmering the chicken in sauce for those extra few minutes makes the flavor stick much better.
03 -
  • Always shred the chicken while it’s warm; it absorbs the sauce best that way.
  • Add a dash of hot sauce to the mixture if you crave more zing—the apples can handle it.
